Definitions CIF, FOB, KRA, and GOK:-

  • CIF – Cost Insurance Freight
  • FOB – Free on Board
  • KRA – Kenya Revenue Authority
  • GOK – Government of Kenya Fees

What does clearing and forwarding mean?

This is the preparation and presentation of customs documentation to facilitate the payment of taxes to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for the release of consignments from ports of entry to warehouse or alternative destination

What taxes do I have to pay?

  • Taxes for cargo being imported are calculated cumulatively in three categories:-
  • Customs Duty
  • Customs Excise
  • Value Added Tax

Not all imported cargo is subject to all three categories of taxation

What is Clearing and Forwarding?

Inbound and outbound goods need to be cleared with Customs upon entry or exit into the country. Goods are checked for compliance with the Kenya Customs requirements and regulations.The Kenya Revenue Authority has put in place Customs clearance procedures and processes that have to be adhered to.
